The Cranbourne Aspire Diploma (CAD) is a certificate students work towards during Year 9. It combines exciting classroom based activities and outdoor activities designed to push students out of their comfort zone, take initiative and develop leadership. During the diploma, students have the chance to become active citizens, help the local community and understand how their actions can benefit the planet.
The three elements of CAD:
- Understanding past and future lives - students look through the eyes of 'Tribal Culture' and evaluate their modern lifestyles by studying and then delivering an exciting presentation on aspects of Japan
- How students can aid people around them and their environment - students plan with their CAD coordinator ways in which they can make a difference to themselves, their families and their local community
- Creative Project - students learn to challenge themselves by undertaking a creative project in an area they are passionate about. They learn new skills, review their learning through a CAD reflection and share their experiences through collaboration and presentation. This is evidenced through photos, videos, certificates, planning documents, websites or emails. Examples of past projects include learning a new instrument, creating a film or documentary, creating animation, making a magazine or brochure and writing a short story.
What skills do students develop as part of CAD?
- Develop personal growth - identifying strengths and developing areas for personal growth
- Learn to challenge themselves - demonstrating that new challenges have been taken and new skills have been learned
- Take initiative - demonstrating how to initiate and plan a project or undertake a service
- Perseverance - showing commitment and perseverance throughout the experience CAD offers. Whatever happens - keep going!
- Collaboration - demonstrating the skills and recognising the benefits of working collaboratively
- Ethics - reflecting on the ethics of your choices and actions and their consequences
