Governors
The Governing Body are the strategic planners of the school. In order to do this a governing body:
- has an operational manager (the Headteacher) who is responsible for the day to day management of the school
- agrees policies and practice which allows the Headteacher the necessary tools to carry out their responsibilities
- agrees principles and targets for improvement
- monitors and evaluates school policies
- acts as the critical friend of the School and Headteacher
- receives and discusses reports on the resulting practice and conduct of the School
- reviews its own working practices
Decisions of the Governing Body are made in formal meetings with the Full Governing Body or committees.

Governing Body Structure
The work of the Governing Body at Cranbourne is carried out in Full Governing Body (FGB) meetings and through the work of its Finance, Personnel and Pay and its Standards Committees.
In addition, Governors are linked to specific pillars of the school Development Plan such as Classroom, Environment, SEMH, Sustainability and Community as well as other areas of importance such as Finance, SEND, Health and Safety, Safeguarding, and Careers to ensure that the highest standards are maintained throughout the school.
Support For The Governing Body
Cranbourne receives support from Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Department including Hampshire Governor Services in the form of School Improvement Partners and Attached Inspectors who take a particular interest in the conduct and achievement of the school.
They are regular visitors to the school and may also attend Governing Body meetings when specific information is required.
Advice and support for schools and Governing Bodies is also available to cover financial, personnel, pupil welfare and specific needs.
Hampshire Governor Services provide support and extensive training for Governors in the county. Training is centred on the strategic role of governors and is free to governors themselves (schools have a budget to purchase the necessary governor training).
