Through our dynamic and creative Food and Nutrition curriculum, we aim to empower young people with a knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating; a deep and broad understanding of how food works as a functional ingredient.
We endeavour to instil a love of cooking through teaching the skills needed to create nutritious meals. Learning how to cook healthy, nourishing and delicious meals is a crucial life skill for everyone.
Throughout their time at Cranbourne, our students are encouraged to become independent learners and take responsibility through practical participation and research tasks. The department promotes Green Cranbourne values through reducing food waste, encouraging recycling and implementing good appliance usage and care.
Students will gain a wider understanding of the environmental impacts of food production and an understanding of sustainable choices such as: seasonal, local foods, the importance of food provenance.
Our students have the opportunity to learn about different cultures through their culinary traditions and produce exciting dishes to reflect and their understanding of world foods. This actively encourages respect and tolerance of the wider community of which we are members of.
The department has a strong focus and drive to develop independent learners promote high standards of academic achievement through making and evaluating dishes. They promote literacy and numeracy through the comprehension and application of recipes of varying complexities.
At Cranbourne, we believe that all students should be independent, enabling our students to develop personal responsibility and self-motivation and to consider the needs of others. This equips our students with the knowledge and cultural capital to succeed in life.
