In the Media and Film Department, we aim to make active critical thinkers out of passive consumers. Students are surrounded by media texts at all times, and by studying media and film at Cranbourne they learn to engage with those texts both creatively and analytically.
As so many topics and experiences are covered by the media and therefore by our curriculum, students also gain an enormous amount of cultural capital they might not otherwise have the opportunity to develop.
This is particularly important regarding the live issues of media bias and representation – after studying media and film at Cranbourne, students are able to make informed critical judgements that they were not able to before.
